Frame of Mind is a design project born from an architecture studio at University of British Columbia, which explored the versatility and novel beauty of wood and joinery, aided with today’s modelling and fabrication technology. From this studio came a new modular building system composed of thin plywood strips joined together in a system of solid wood pegs and holes. The use of this joint system allows for the assembly of the structure without the use of power tools. Each plywood unit is exactly the same, which results in a modular system that can be put together in a variety of assemblies in a range of sizes and patterns. The geometric orbs were successfully installed at Burning Man 2015.
